A RESOLUTION COMMENDING TONDO HIGH
SCHOOL AND RAMON MAGSAYSAY HIGH SCHOOL FOR WINNING TWO GOLD, TWO SILVER, THREE
BRONZE AND TWO SPECIAL AWARD IN THE 2012 INTERNATIONAL YOUTH INVENTION
EXHIBITION, 11-13 FEBRUARY 2012, TAINAN,TAIWAN (R.O.C.)
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the
State to recognize the vital role of the youth in nation-building and to
promote and protect their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual, and social
well-being;
WHEREAS, Article XIV, Section 10 of the Constitution states that
“The State shall give priority to research and development, invention,
innovation, and their utilization; and to science and technology education,
training, and services…”;
WHEREAS, Article XIV, Section 11 states that “ Congress may provide
for incentives…to deserving science students, researchers, scientists,
inventors, technologists, and specially gifted citizens”;
WHEREAS, the science students and teacher coaches of Tondo High School,
with their talent, diligence and hard work have discovered new and
practical knowledge besting other entries in the 2012 International Youth
Invention Exhibition;
WHEREAS, the titles they won bring honor and prestige to their
institutions and to the country, and put the Philippines in the world record of
youth achievers in science, invention and innovation;
WHEREAS, the outstanding accomplishments can serve as inspiration
to all Filipinos, especially the youth, and is worthy of emulation and
recognition by the Filipino nation;
WHEREAS, the recognition will further promote the interest and
motivate young people to pursue career in science and technology;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED
AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the young inventors and their
instructors/advisers from Tondo High School and Ramon Magsaysay High
School be given commendation by the House of Representatives for their
outstanding performance in the 2012 International Youth Invention Exhibition on
11-13 February 2012 at Tainan, Taiwan.

Filipino inventors bag gold, bronze in intl invention exhibition

YOUNG
researchers of Tondo High School won two gold medals, one bronze and one
special award in the recent 2012 International Youth Invention Exhibition
(IYIE) in Far East University, Tainan, Taiwan from February 11 to 13. The
IYIE, sponsored by the World Invention Intellectual Property Association,
promotes international exchange of creativity to young people aged 7 to 20
years, and provide participants with experiential opportunities for
intellectual pursuit and cultural exploration. Gold
medalists were Maria Angelyn Enriquez, Jan Mikka Devis, Gemvhie Kate Paula Lee
for the project Low Temperature Melting Glasses for Fashion Accessories from
Rice Hulls and Oyster Shells.The project also won the special award category. Another
gold winner was the project A Novel Yeast from Guava Fruit [Psidiuym guajava]
for Bioethanol Production discovered by Jan Mikka Devis, Maria Angelyn
Enriquez, Wendy Charlerne Almasen. Recipients
of bronze medal were Ellaine Gulmatico, Meri Louise Alqueza, Cecilia Salenga
for the project Physic Nut Fruit Extract-Activated Paper Battery. On
the other hand, Ramon Magsaysay High School also won two silvers, two bronzes
and one special award. Agham Party-List Rep. Angelo Palmones commended the
young inventors and their instructors Sonny Valenzuela, Rebecca Roxas and
Editha Dungo for bringing honor and prestige to the country. The
creative work of these young inventors put the Philippines in the world record
of youth achievers in science, invention and innovation. They can serve as
inspiration to our young people and as such worthy of recognition and
emulation, Palmones stated. Earlier,
Palmones filed House Resolution 406 recommending for recognition and provision of incentives for winners of international science competitions and recipients
of international science awards.
